Apostille is a special mark on documents that gives them legal force on the territory of another country.
Apostille is a simplified legalization of documents that has effect in the countries that are parties to the Hague Convention. In other cases the legalization procedure of a document should be undergone in the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, Ministry of Foreign affairs of Ukraine and consular of the destination country. There is no need in legalization or apostilling while filing foreign documents within the Commonwealth of Independent States because of the Minsk convention of 22 January 1993.
APOSTILLIZATION OF DOCUMENTS IS POSSIBLE THROUGH THREE STATE ADMINISTRATION AUTHORITIES:
- Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
- Ministry of Education of Ukraine.
- Ministry of Justice of Ukraine.
COUNTRIES THAT DEMAND DOUBLE APOSTILLE: AUSTRIA, BELGIUM, FRANCE, PORTUGAL, SWITZERLAND, NETHERLANDS, ITALY
Documents issued by Civil Status Registration offices are subject to legalization in the regional department of Justice where the Civil Status Registration Office is located. And only after this procedure the document shall be filed for apostille to the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine.
APOSTILLIZATION OF DOCUMENTS WITH FURTHER CONSULAR LEGALIZATION OF TRANSLATION
Two methods of legalization are appropriate for some countries:
- first apostille on the original document (notarial copy) + notarial translation + second apostille
- apostille on the original document (notarial copy) + translation made by the accredited translator
These include, for example, Spain.
